The building sequence is based on my on-site analysis of the construction history,
using the techniques developed on the cathedral of Chartres called toichology, and described in a number of publications.
The analysis of some of the smaller churches are more approximate than I would like, and need further analysis.
I have used 'phase' rather than 'campaign' to to identify a contiguous zone with similar elements.
A campaign would be defined by recognisable breaks and construction joints in the fabric: there may be a number of phases within a campaign.
One benefit is that separate programs by subcontractors, such as carvers, may be isolated, which is particularly useful in complex sections, such as portals.
Every phase has been assigned to a decade, so there may be more than one phase in a decade.
While this is certainly imperfect, it will allow us to explore all the data, including costs, across time.
This is an on-going process, so as the data continues to be analyzed, the chronology and costing analysis will be further refined, and the synopsis updated.
Clicking on any of the decade graphics will display all buildings that had work being done during that decade.

Phase 1 - 1130s [1133] - chapels (d)
Choir foundations to dado with capitals that reflect the pre-Crusade period. This is a hazardous interpretation, but there was a fire in 1131, and these chapels may have been the consequences. It may be that only the radiating chapels were built with the dado arcade, and no higher than the window sills. This concept also sits well with other Add-a-Chapel schemes where there were some 30 years between the lower walls and the rest.

Rationale for dating : Annualised dating from MCS #8; analysed in "The Ark", 5:971-; See "Add-a-chapel" scheme in "Templatemakers", 52. Because the closest designs to Layered, Solo, Flopsie and Nicolas all lie before the Second Crusade, I will suggest that the lower courses of the walls with the dado were laid out in the 30s, or a little later. The major difficulty is with Damian's capital which would have been more logically placed before the Laon gallery.

Phase 8 - 1170s [1170] - nave 1-4 (a)
Nave aisle 1-4, a bit complex in these bays as some capitals are from this period and some from the next decade, and some earlier ones are in the walls and some in the piers. There are also connections with the transept dado arcades and bases all round that need further study. The consoles in the crossing piers also appear to have been carved about this time.
